The Anti Aging Diet

fruits-and-vegetablesHave you ever stopped to consider that the foods you choose to eat can not only affect the way your body looks now, but it can also affect the way that you age in the years to come?  Scientists and doctors have long studied the relationship between nutrition and diet and the way the body ages.  Considering the recent popularity of anti aging skin care and treatments, new diets have come to light that claim to deliver anti aging benefits. The author examines the critical relationship between the foods that we eat and the onset of aging and age related diseases.

Often times we forget that aging is more than just wrinkles and unsightly spots, aging takes place throughout our entire body and that ultimately affects the way our body performs overall.  An unhealthy body is less likely to be able to ward off the onset of aging, whereas a healthy one can maintain its youthful appearance much longer.  So in addition to skin care, we should always adopt a healthy lifestyle, being sure to eat the right foods and to stay active with exercise.

There are foods that contain higher amounts of phytonutrients.  Phytonutrients are molecules that essentially attack and destroy free radicals present within your skin.  They are a member of the anti oxidant family and they will help protect your skin against free radicals or oxidative stress (condition where too many free radicals are within your skin, the direct cause of aging).

In addition to anti oxidants, it is important to eat foods that are anti inflammatory as well.  By combining anti oxidants and anti inflammatory foods you can affect the skin’s cellular level and significantly slow aging.  Anti inflammatory foods cold water fish and richly colored fruits and vegetables.

On the contrary, there are also foods that can accelerate aging.  So it is important to not only eat the right foods, but also eliminate the wrong ones from your diet.  Saturated or trans fatty acids, sugar, and starches can cause insulin levels to increase within your body triggering a natural anti inflammatory response that can significantly speed up the rate in which we age.

Remember you don’t need to have a gimmick anti aging diet book, or workout plan.  Common sense and some discipline are all you need to achieve the results and prolonged beauty you desire.  Remember stress, UV rays, hormones and even a weakened immune system can also play a role the rate in which you age, so be sure to consider each of their role in your lifestyle.   High quality wrinkle treatments can be very helpful in the anti aging process, but our number one weapon in the war against aging is ourselves.
